I am selling a accomodations voucher...good until February 2003 for the Balboa Club in Mazatlan, Mexico. It's for 2 adults and 3 kids. This is an exclusive club in the Golden Zone. I've never been there...I bought it at a local auction, and may not go with all that's happening with airlines and all. If anyone is interested, let me know. Jackie

Just got back from my third trip to Mazatlan. It feels more like my 'home-away-from-home' each time I go. We purchased a timeshare at the Inn at Mazatlan last year and were looking forward to using it this year. It was wonderful. If anything, the service and cleanliness at the resort is even better than it was last year! And I didn't think it could get any better. While a lot of the other resorts in the area seem to be letting their places slide a bit, I'm proud to own at the Inn. For anyone who hasn't tried it...GO TO LA FONTANA'S FOR DINNER! This has got to be the best seafood restaraunt in the entire Zona Dorada. The atmosphere, service, food and prices can't be beat. The Kahlua Shrimp is out of this world as are the La Talla Oysters and the Seafood Combo for 2. Anyway, had a blast, the weather was nice, the ocean was warm. Lots of jellyfish this time of year though.

We stayed at the El Cid El Moro Tower November 19-26. It was a very nice place. Too bad there are so many vendors on the streets and on the beaches trying to get you to buy their things. We also went over to Sam's Club because your web site said we would be able to get a one day pass and buy things to take back to the hotel. But we were not able to do that. We could get a pass just to LOOK around. We would have had to buy a years membership to buy. We were quite disappointed. Met lots of people from the US and especially from the West Coast. We will probably go back again. The weather was great!

Hello Nadine and Henry! I need your advice. Our 3rd year college student daughter will be on an exchange at Monterrey University from Jan to May. The college will be setting her up with a family for a homestay arrangement. The have offered her three different areas to live in as described below. If you have any advice on this it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. There are three important areas where we have host families. One is downtown, in this area you are in the oldest part of Mazatlan, you are close to the Cathedral, the market, the theatre, the bohemian cafes. At this part, the most part of the people don't speak to you in English only in Spanish. From this zone you need like 10 or 15 min. to arrive to the beach.(Limited host families options). This is the traditional area of town. Other is the touristic (Golden) zone, this area is close to the hotels, the bars, clubs and other touristic places. Here the most part of the people speak to you in English. It's like 5 min. to the beach. This is the highest standard zone in Mazatlán. (More options available) The last one is the zone in the middle of downtown and the touristic zone, this is close to supermarkets, churches, close to the beach (5 min.), the mall, several banks and stores. And it's close to the area mentioned before. The three areas are around 30 minutes from the school by bus.

Back in the eighties I had the pleasure of visiting Barra and Melaque. I have longed to venture back that way before civilization totally corrupts the pristine beauty of the area. At any rate, I will be returning in the Spring of 2000 and have rented a property at Miguel Lopez de Legaspi #40 - the unit is on the 3rd floor. Is there anyone out there who knows this property? Nice? Terrible? Somewhere in between. Would appreciate any feedback. Thank you

Hi Nadine and Henry, Just wanted to say"" Hi "" . Thanks once again for all of your advice and coupons. We have used many of your coupons already. We have been here since Oct. 13th. Perfect weather so far. Just wanted to give a warning to all of our friends who travel to Mazatlan. My husband and I wanted to take a look at El Cid. We really haven't seen it since 1986 and we thought we would take a look and consider buying a place. We were approached by a young woman by the name of LORENA ZATARAIN. She approached us on the beach and asked us if we would like to tour El Cid. Since it was something we already wanted to see, we agreed. This morning we were out in front of the Inn at Mazatlan waiting for her. She met us at 8:45 and put us in a Pulmonia. Two fellows drove us away and told us they were not bringing us to El cid but to PLAYA MARIA which by the way is a DUMP. We were virtuallyl KIDNAPPED. No fun at all. When they dropped us, the place looked like no place we wanted to tour and we took a cab back. We never did see El Cid and I can't tell you how angry we both are. Just wanted to warn all of our friends. It is best not to accept an invitation to tour El cid or you will wind up at Playa Maria and this is not a place most people would want to see, I can promise you that. Except for that ugly experience, things are fine and we are enjoying ourselves much. We will be staying at the Inn until October 27th. Anyone have any questions, just give us a call. Fred and Jane

I love what I have seen. Not only because of all the infromation you have have provided, but because Mazatlan is place that I vist every six months. I have family member over there, but mainly the reason I frequent Mazatlan is because the love of my life lives over there. Her name is Raquel and I have been with her for Three years and five months now. Everytime I go there is something different for her and I to expericence together. I usually go for about two weeks, and vist all the great sites Mazatlan has to offer. I'm very happy to hear that my fellow people have gone over there and have enjoyed a great amount of time. Probably the reason Mazatlan seens so nice to me is because I have some very special in my life to enjoy it with. I really don't know what my life would be without her by my side. She is all I want and all I need. December is coming up and I'll probably feel pretty lonely because I don't have enough money to pay for a airplane ticket. I guess that the love of my life will have to wait for me. I offer my greetings towards you and hope to hear from you personally.

We spend 2-3 weeks January in Mazatlan at Pueblo Bonito. We often like to arrive early or stay later than our time share allows. With all of your experience, where would you stay for those extra 1 or 5 days? Also, have you been to Tecapan (spelling?) or a hacienda to the north? Are they worth visiting? One other thing... I did not see your connection to the Pacific Pearl? How can I get a listing of what is available at the theater while I am there?

Another source told me that many bars & shops will be closed because of this bad weather?? Any advice? Over the years we've met so many people that we don't want to go any where else because it's like a big family reunion every time we go. We stayed at the vidafel and really enjoyed it, beautiful pool, friendliy staff. We've met life long friends their From Calgary, Robbinsdale and Duluth. Now we stay at the Hotel Carravelle (Doubletree) Great beach, friendly staff, walking distance to everything and Chili Peppers Restaurant Right next door. Who can ask for anything more? We usally go Early to mid Feb. Great weather, in 9 years Only 1 totally cloudy day and we never had a rainy day. Always perfect. Nadine & Henry I loved your website. You have great information. We just returned from our first visit to Mazatlan & we had a WONDERFUL time. We went w/2 other couples & our only gripe was the timeshare people who wouldn't take no for an answer so beware!! However it was OUR choice to go to the presentations. We stayed at Costa de Oro & they were the best! The chilequiles they had for breakfast were excellent. Our other fav place to eat was Panamas (excellent desserts) and the restaurant at Royal Villas. There food was excellent unfortunately we had to eat in a hurry becuz our friends were leaving that evening & almost missed their bus. The club that we liked the best was called "Bananas" I believe, let's just say we had too much to drink that evening! All in all our vacation was great and we all plan on returning. I have some questions.... First.... I wanna know if American Express card is well acepted as VISA or Mastercard in restaurants and bars... Second.... How restricted are the law for drinking in the streets or in public places?... I mean... Can I drink a beer or walk drunk in the streets as I did at Puerto Vallarta?.... Ive just returned from a wonderful trip from Mazatlan. The climate was great and the people were so generous and truly hospitable. We will definately be returning next year possibly with our son who is 18 and will be graduating from high school. This vacation will truly be one to remember for my husband and I. We hope that we can let people in our area know how great Mazatlan really is. hugs and kisses Mazatlan., Joni Albertini

WE will be going to Matzatlan in July with 14 people (ages 14 and up). We are considering the Stone Island tour (is there a particularly good guide?), Randi's horses, some want to golf (best course?), most want to shop (local artists, craftsmen -- best area to find them?). We have several recommendations for restaurants and clubs already. Any tips on fun things to do and where to do them would be appreciated!

We're taking a family vacation to Mazatlan the end of this month (June). We have two teenagers. We are staying at the Paraiso Del Mar. Does anyone know anything about this property; location, amenities, etc.? Also, if anyone could tell us what the 'not to be missed' attractions and activities in Mazatlan are and some great places to eat. It's going to be a short trip and I want to plan in advance and make the most of it. Thanks!!!

Okay, so I completely fell in love with Mazatlan and would like to go again SOON. I don't have a problem with hotel reservations, military discounts cover that nicely. Does anyone know an inexpensive way TO GET THERE from Chicago, IL????? Our last tickets were about $450 each (from www.hotwire.com), which isn't bad--but. . .I am a grad student on a bit of a budget. . . Greyhound goes to a lot of the border towns (for a really decent price, from my hometown!), but that's still a distance from Mazatlan! Any suggestions welcome. . . thanks all! Aimee

My new wife Maria and I just got back from 9 nights at the Pueblo Bonito (May 21-29). It was wonderful! Beautiful resort with superb roomservice and all rooms are ocean view. A tip: try to get one on the 4th or 5th floor, above the palm trees. Mazatlan was a blast. Got to have dinner at a beachside restaurant, Tony's is a great choice! We had a huge platter for two full of lobsters and prawns, and two margaritas for under $40! Oh and you have to try the flaming bananas at El Sheik restaurant (next to Valentinos Disco) And it is only a 5-8 minute walk from Pueblo Bonito. We rented a buggy for 24hrs for only $60. Great way to see the city. Valentinos is a great disco, right out over the water. Went to see the new Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay. It is the most beautiful, luxurious place I have ever seen. The only thing is that it is about 20 minutes north of the city. There are however several shuttles every day that will give you a lift into town, or you can just rent a car. Took the Stone Island tour. It was fun! Good lunch, all-inclusive drinks, snorkeling (though the water tends to get stirred up and mirky alot there), a brief horseback ride, banana boat ride, ect...Cost is about $26 person. Mazatlan is tons of fun! If you can get used to the steady stream of beach vendors you will love it. We did! Anybody can e-mail me with any questions you have. Bryan Chamberlin

Wanted to reply to Joe's question about Vidafel here. . . Vidafel (Sea Garden, Paraiso del Mar) is quite a ways away from everything, but bus and taxi transportation are easy-so NO PROBLEM. The beach is rocky, but not crowded. The pool area is wonderful. The food is better at the pool restaurant than the main restaurant--and the drinks are cheaper. One nice touch was a daily newsletter outlining the activities that the resort had planned (presented in English y en Espanol.) All in all--we had a great time and the people at the resort were friendly and attentive, but not intrusive! Cheers.

My wife and my two daughters are traveling to Mazatlan in May. This will be our second visit. I can't wait!! We had a blast the first time we went there in 1992. I'm sure its changed some with all the new development and all. We're looking forward at trying out all the great places to eat along with doing nothing for a week and a half. Do you (or anyone else reading this e-mail) have any information/scoop on the pueblo bonito emerald bay hotel? That's where we are staying. Again, excellent site. Thanks for all the time and effort you have put into this site. John

In April 2001 we went to Mazatlan and stayed at the Fiesta Inn. I can't say all that much good about the place we stayed, but we loved everyone else. We met the nicest people we have ever met in our travels and saw some of the most beautiful scenery. Our favorite places to eat were Las Canoas, Chili's Pepper and the El Parador. The people at these places bent over backwards to make you feel at home. We fell in love with a little boy who worked as a vendor on the beach selling pens and lighters. His name is Juan and about maybe 7 or 8. If anyone out there knows anything about him, please email us at beepoop1@tds.net. We have a little gift we bought for him that just reminded us of him when we got home. Thankyou.

Hiya! I could really use some help from someone who has driven to Mazatlan! Our family is having a big disagreement about which route to take from Juarez, Mexico (right on the border with El Paso, Texas!) One route takes five hours less, through Chihuahua City, but we have to pass through the dreaded Espinazo del Diablo outside of Durango. I've heard it is a dangerous winding mountain passage where oncoming trucks have to come into opposing traffic lanes because it is so narrow, and you sometimes can't see what's around the corner due to low visibility. The other route takes six hours more because we have to drive west to Aguas Prietas, but it is supposed to be safer. Can anyone tell me from experience which is better? Is the Espinazo del Diablo really that dangerous? Please help! I'll be checking the boards regularly until our trip! Thanks!!! Adrian

My mother, my friend, and myself made a trip to Mazatlan only a couple of days ago. We had a fantastic time. The weather was absolutely beautiful, not a cloud in the sky, and the people were great. We learned a couple of things on this trip. First, unless your not a teenage boy, or if you eat a lot, don't stay all-inclusive. While this option my be right for some, the three of us, don't eat much and we certainly didn't eat our share of food. All-inclusive is a great option if you have a big family or are going to do a lot of drinking. Second, Mazatlan is like every other city, be carefull where you go after dark. Use common sense, if your going to go for a walk or to a bar, go in a group. Mazatlan is a gorgeous city, take full advantage of it. Stay out late, and get up early. You miss a lot by just doing one of the two. While we were in Mazatlan, we had a wonderfull time. Our hotel was beautifull and we experienced no problems there. My mother felt safe letting my friend and I out at night arround the hotel because security there was great. We had dinner one night a Tequila's, which is a great place to eat. The food was delicious, and the entertainment was hilarious(although probably wasn't ment to be!!) I will be returning there, as there is much to do and see. Mazatlan is a city for people of all ages, during the day the beaches are beautifull, and the city is lively. At night there are many discos for the young adults, and the city stays alive till well after 3 am. While in Mazatlan, I read in a Pulmonia something that really aplies there--"While in Rome, do as Romans do. While is Mazatlan do whatever you want because no one cares, and no one will ever see you again."

I just came back from Mazatlan, it was a great expirience. I would definatley go back. For those of you who are writing and coplaining you should consider staying in the US. The culture of the city makes the expirience. You are in their country and you should respect that or stay at home. There are so many great places to eat- I could not believe it. There is definatly something about Mazatlan that I liked better than Puerta Vaerta and Cancun. It is a great place to visit I would recomend it to anyone. If anyone is going there please try ang get the Shrimp Buckets address for me. Thanx!

I WAS IN PUERTA VALLARTA IN APRIL 7-14 2001 AND WE STAYED THE MELIA PUERTA VALLARTA 4 * HOTEL AND THIS RESORT IS ALL INCLUSIVE EX-SPECIALLY FOR CHILDREN AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANY ONE WITH CHILDREN THE FOOD WAS GREAT IF YOUR WERE MEXICIAN OR SPANISH. THERE WAS NOTHING THAT A CANADIAN CHILD WOULD EAT. CHILDREN EAT MACARONI AND CHEESE, CHICKEN FINGERS AND FRIES PUDDING. YOU'LL UNDERSTAND IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN AND MINE ARE NOT PICKY EATERS. AS FOR THE HOTEL IT WAS CLEAN AND FRIENDLY BUT DID NOT SPEAK ENOUGH ENGLISH. I HAD A VERY GOOD TIME THERE DON'T GET ME WRONG BUT THE CHILDRENS RESORT THAT EVERYONE SAYS IT IS NOT. THE BEACHES ARE DIRTY, THE AGE GROUPS FOR THE CHILDREN ARE MIXED UP. I HAD A WONDERFUL TIME ON THE TOUR OF THE DOLPHINS IT WAS MAGNIFICANT.

Just returned from a one-week stay at the El Cid El Moro Tower resort. We thought the resort was great, except that every time we entered or left we were set upon by the "information desk" people, pushing us to listen to a presentation for a free breakfast, meal, tour, etc... Other than that, the resort was beautiful. We had no trouble bringing food or drink up to our room, but maybe that was because we stayed in a room with a kitchenette, and what's the point of having a kitchenette if you can't bring in your own food and drink? I thought the service there was great, restaurants in the resort were "OK". I was not bothered too much by the beach vendors or the children selling chiclets, however, we WERE bothered by all the people up and down the Golden Zone trying to get us to come to a presentation. The first couple of days were not bad, then it got to the point where everytime we walked down the strip 5 or 6 different people would stop us. Some were pushier than others, and some of the same people stopped us every single day, knowing that we had told them no the day before. Our biggest pet peeve was going to a restuarant, and as the hostess seats you, she starts her sales pitch. I understand that people have to make a living, but to be bothered while you are eating in a restaurant is going too far, and the restaurant owners should not allow that to happen to their guests. OK, enough about that. All of the restaurants we ate at were very good, some excellent. If you pay attention and go at the right time, you can get some GREAT deals on food and drink. Breakfast at Papagayos was wonderful; Nadine was right, the french toast IS excellent there!! Had it three times! Terraza Playa at the Playa Mazatlan was also very nice - can't beat that view. Ate and watched sports at Tequila's a few times, and the appetizers at Ernie Tomatoes were great. Bought an original finger oil painting on a ceramic tile from Antonio Lopez Avila, an artist who works right next to the line for the Fiesta Mexicana at the Playa Mazatlan Tues., Thurs. and Sat., so you can watch him paint while you wait in line. It was incredible watching him work! And very reasonable for $30 u.s. or 300 pesos. Something great to bring back to remind us of our trip. Pools at the El Cid resorts were incredible. Costa de Oro looked like a nice place to stay, as well as the Inn at Mazatlan. Fiesta Mexicana at Playa Mazatlan is a must-do, if you haven't seen it before. Liked Pancho's, but we were very uncomfortable when we were approached at our table by mariachi musicians who launched into a song next to our table and then demanded 40 pesos from us. The music was nice but we didn't ask for it, and they never said it would cost money... I was prepared to tip them and gave them 20 pesos, but they just stood there demanding more money. It was tacky and made us extremely uncomfortable. We were paying with a credit card and didn't have extra pesos on us. Nice restaurant though, alot of freebies and good service. Don't mean to sound too negative; overall our trip was great, I just wish someone would have told us some of this stuff before we went so we were prepared. All of Henry and Nadine's recommendations were right-on! Would definitely go back, being that we're informed now.

Well, we are off to Maz on Saturday. I have been there a few times, and the little lady once(last year) I am so sorry to hear that some of you are so upset about the beach vendors. Honestly, what do you expect from a third world country where the average person makes less in a month than what we make in a day? Just what were you expecting? Personally, I have been to most of the resort spots in Mexico, and for the most part they are the same. If you want to stay in a place like downtown New York or such, then don't go to Maz. It surely isn't Cancun(but for those of us that are trying to get away from the "Usual") then it is exactly the way it should be!(a place that is different, fun, and for the most part, very friendly people.) I have to agree with those staying at the El Cid. Have done so in the past...Nice Place..Way too Rigid..There are other nice little spots though. We own a timeshare down there at the Luna Palace. It is not a 5 star by any means, but that is what makes it great. We have a great view, nice room, and to be honest, who spends all that much time in their room anyway?? Great staff, and although we don't go inclusive anymore, food is OK. Please people, remember where you are going to, and why you are going...If you look for the great things to do in Maz. you will find it second to none anywhere, and that is why I am sooo excited about our leaving on Sat. for 2 weeks again. By the way, for you who have never been there, there is so very much to see and do that are not part of the "tourist bit" if you look for it, you will be amazed!! Have a great day. Doug

We traveled to Mazatlan, Friday March 30, 2001 to Friday April 6, 2001 and we stayed at the Oceano Palace with the all inclusive plan. The resort as a whole I would at fair 6 out of 10. The key is that you have to know and understand that you are not staying at 5 star hotel and that the resort is a budget resort and if you keep this in mind you will have a great time. I personally don't feel that you have to go all-inclusive in Mazatlan, there is just to much to do and to many places to eat and the prices are exceptionally inexpensive. We rented scooters will there which was great and cheap for $6 U.S. per hour. On the scooters you can get a great view of the city up close and at your own pace. In addition all they ask for is your drivers license to rent the scooter, so you don't have give up a credit card. The venders on the beach are a little aggressive but if you tell them "no tango dinero" = "no more money" they usually just back off. TIP: NEVER pay no more than 50% of what the venders are asking. I bought a 4 pairs of sunglasses for 20 dollars, but he started at 30 dollars for 1 pairs. Simply put, you set the price not them. Mazatlan also has happy hour throughout the entire city at every restaurant some happy hours have 3 for 1 beers while others have gigantic lemon, strawberry, and plain margaritas for 1 buck. The stores close early around 9:30 or 10 oclock so if you are a beer drinker like myself then you might want to go buy a 6 pack of Coronas or Pacificos for about 4 dollars U.S. Also you must go on the Stone Island Tour this was a great tour and we actually saw real seals. This is a site if you are from a big city like myslf. Overall I rate my experience with this trip and Mazatlan a cool 7. I would try to go back some day. I just wouldn't advise all inclusive. Give me a shout if you want to know anything Brian id27@voyager.net

Our family just returned from a week long vacation to Maztown. We had a ball. Our hotel was Oceano Palace it was a ok hotel but I would rather stay nearer the Golden Zone. We had some really nice side trips one was the Stone Island Tour (Don't be fooled by the horses they are really small). We had some really nice dinners and the service was really great at our hotel. The bullfight price really was 250 pesos no bargaining. All in all we had a ball I would recommend Mazatlan, Hope to some of you next year.

I just got back from a week in Mazatlan with my wife and parents. We stayed at the El Cid Moro Tower through a time-share exchange my parents made. I thought the service was great. If you complain about the service in Mazatlan, you obviously have never been to Cancun. I also didn't think that the beach vendors were any different than anywhere else in Mexico. The people who are complaining about vendors trying to sell them something all of the time should try a little empathy. These people are just trying to make a living and will leave you alone if you just shake your head, say 'no gracias', or ignore them. My wife and I attended two different time-share sales presentations - at El Cid and at the Inn at Mazatlan. We knew the whole time that we weren't going to buy, and when we told the salespeople no, they accepted that and left us alone. By comparison, we have attended similar presentation in the states and found the high pressure to be annoying and rude. In return for attending these presentations in Mazatlan, we received numerous vouchers for free food at some very good restaurants. We ate for free most of the week! The place at the Inn of Mazatlan has a wonderful view and excellent food, I forget the name however. We thought Mazatlan was great, and will probably go back some day. The city was much larger than we expected, and not as cheap, but is very beautiful. The Fiesta at the Playa Mazatlan was great and well worth the money. The dancing was wonderful, but at one point 2 of the male dancers brought out 2 roosters and let them have a go at each other there on the stage! It was somewhat disturbing seeing a cockfight in the middle of this beautiful dance, but besides that it was great. Thanks for the great website.

We are planning a trip to Mazatlan next January. We are tentatively booked in one of our timeshare exchanges - Sunterra Resorts Rorres Mazatlan. In looking at your maps, I see that it is close to two trailer parks. This worries me a bit. What can you tell me to put my mind at ease - or not. Thanks

Jennifer the point that I was trying to make is that you can only be asked by so many people in one day if you want to buy chicklets it gets very irrating to get asked 20 times a day by the same person if you want to buy something. I bet if anyone of these people came here for there long awaited vacation and they were bugged steady that they would not apprecaticed it one bit . I work just as hard as these people do 362 days a year and when I go on vacation I want to sit back and enjoy it just like you do. As far as poverty goes why don't you take a trip to Washington D.C. or any major city in the United States and I guaranteen that you will see the exact same thing. Not all Americans are rich. I agree that this sight should be used for information and I should not have stated it that way but for your information one of the couples that was with us bought a whole box of chicklets from a child that was just outside of our hotel.

Well Lee I agree with you in theory, however I find it offensive as do others I'm sure, when people leave messages containing derogatory comments. I appreciate the advice in that message for it's information about el cid, but the comments he used were completely inappropriate and unnnecessary. This message board is for, like you say, giving other people advice on where to stay and where to eat etc. It is NOT for insulting others, like the way that Felix's message was responded to by Dan nor is it to leave prejudice comments on. I for one, find the poverty that I saw in Mazatlan incredebly heart wrenching and it disturbs me that people can take it so light heartedly by making such comments. As you said, this board is simply for giving advice, in which case I think that people should keep thier tackless comments out of their messages.

Jennifer, I don't think Nadine and Henry screen any of our messages, this is our page to tell our story. I'm glad that someone has warned us all about a place that I will never stay. There are a lot of nice places to stay at in Mazatlan, we stay at Costa de Oro where they let you bring in food and drink if you would like. I think that most places do the same, if not then lets warn others about it. Lee

After I returned from Mazatlan 2 months ago , i became obsessed with returning this summer. Therefore i check this site and message board every week. I AM *&%#ING SICK OF READING COMPLAINTS ABOUT VENDORS, COMPLAINTS ABOUT PRICES AND DEROGATORY COMMENTS (SUCH AS COMMENTS ABOUT SELLING CHICLETS ON THE STREET). I think everyone who has written such a comment should stop and realize how lucky you are to have the opportunity to travel to a different country. Half the messages on this board are filled with complaints, but the complaints i can deal with. It's the disgusting, ignorant comments such as the one in the previous message that really offend me. Nadine and Henry, I love your site but I think you should screen your message boards more carefully for such derogatory comments.

To Felix, gees where did I here that before,I'm not here to rip you off, about six times last week!! Ismual says (at vikinO's fishing)I'm only telling you the truth senor!!! I own this business!! You can take all your fish home! Funny thing, Ismual does not own the charter, and we were'nt allowed to take our fish home. Then they told us red snapper was no good to eat as they proceded to sell it to the market for 4 dollars a kilo. Boy did I take it hard on that one. Good thing I had alot of Vasiline. As far as the El Cid goes, I have never, ever, seen a resort that will not let you bring pop, beer,or food in!! I was treated like I was smuggling dope into my room. I was actually escorted out of the lobby by security for bringing in a six pack of beer!!! How embarssing, Fortunately, I didn't let my temper get the best of me.!! But the thing that really impressed me Felix!!, was when Roberto and a security guard escourted out a crying 11 year old boy for carrying in a bag of potato chips!!! Get Real!! Felix you probably are a decent, honest sales man, but as far as I'm concerned 90% of you would be better of selling chicklets on the street!!!

UNTILL ABOUT LAST YEARS BULL SEASON, YOU WERE ABLE TO GET AWAY WITH IT IF YOU MADE A BIG DEAL ABOUT THE PRICE OF THE ENTRANCE. YOU WERE ALSO ABLE TO GO IN IF YOU HAD PURCHASED A TICKET FOR LOCAL PEOPLE OR TWO BEERS TIPPING THE GUY AT THE GATE. NOW SINCE THE 2000/2001 SEASON STARTED YOU CANT ANYMORE. IT IS MESSED UP THAT THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT PRICE BASED ON THE COLOR OF YOUR SKIN BUT THOSE ARE THE RULES OF THE OWNER. THE ACTUAL PRICE OF THE TICKET IS $250.00 SO KEEP THAT IN MIND. Just returned from Maz--our first trip (see E-mail from Delby also). We've been to many places in Mexico--the venders, beggars, and time share people abut drove me crazy--even while you were eating dinner you were approached by these people--that part I didn't like. But the side trips we took were great--go on the "UP the Mountain tour--it's all day but well worth it to see how bricks are made (by hand), ceramic tile, furniture, a bakery, the laundry's where they wash all by hand, churches, and the wonderful Banana Cream Pie waiting at the retaurant on the mountain! Stone Island is good--go to the docks where the cruise ships come in--we walked around and got invited onto a Tuna boat that had just come in--amazing! Don't waste your time on the Fiesta if you've seen one before. The El Cid was expensive and not what I pictured everyone to be talking about--no food or drink allowed inside--ridiculous! Casa de Oro down the beach was nice--very friendly people, unlike the El Cid. --a great little beach bar(the one with the red portapotty) was great $1 for a cervesa--great place to watch the sunset and they bring you munchies it you stay long enough-octopus, shrimp, fish tacos-Just be prepared to say NO many times!

My wife and I just returned from Mazatlan March 30, 2001. Great weather, great food, and great hotel. The Royal Villa's Hotel is fantastic. Great beach, beautiful rooms with refrigerator, stove, and microwave for money saving cervezas and meals. Everything worked well, the hotel offered internet service for emailing, and the view from the 11th floor was breathtaking. One restaurant that was out of this world was down on the harbor where the ferries and fishing boats come in. I did not look for the name believe it or not, but the seafood was amazing. They had the catch of the day on ice and cooked their fish filets or whole over a mesquite charcoal grill. My Mahi Mahi filet was one of the best meals I have ever eaten. It is a 60 peso fair in the back of one of those bench seat pick ups to get to this place but it was worth the trip. The restaurants around the plaza in old Mazatlan, Pedro and Lola's et. al. are nice quiet places to eat with wonderful live music. Prices are reasonable to inexpensive and the food was very good. We decided chasing the wild life with the spring breakers was a mistake and that we should have spent more time in this area enjoying live jazz or folk music. One draw back to Mazatlan is the traffic noise. The main road in the golden zone is always humming with traffic. I was glad to get home to the serenity of Iowa.

JUST GOT BACK FROM OUR FIRST TRIP TO MAZATALAN. WE HAD 3 COUPLES WITH US AND WE STAYED AT THE EL CID AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL OR EVEN CONSIDER A TIME SHARE THERE. WE STAYED IN THE CASTILLA AREA AND TO OUR SURPRISE WE FOUND OUT THAT YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BRING ANY FOOD OR BEVERAGES OF YOUR OWN INTO THE HOTEL BECAUSE THEY WANT YOU TO PURCHASE EVERYTHING FROM THEM AND WHEN DRINKS ARE $7.20 (AMERICAN ) THAT CAN BE QUITE EXPENSIVE. WE DID HAVE A VERY GOOD TIME DOING SIDE TRIPS. WE HIRED A GENTLEMAN BY THE NAME OF JESUS RODRIGUES WHO TOOK US ON A MOUNTAIN TOUR THAT WAS EXCELLECT,JESUS SPEAKS ENGLISH BECAUSE HIS FAMILY LIVES IN ILLINOIS, HE ALSO TOLD US ABOUT DIFFERENT PLACES TO GO THAT ARE MORE LOCAL AND SAFE. WE ALSO HIRED A FISHING TRIP FROM THE VIKING FLEET BIG BIG MISTAKE ISMAUL IS A BEACH VENDOR I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU ALWAYS BOOK FROM YOUR MOTEL LIKE WE HAVE DONE IN THE PAST. THE BIGGEST COMPLAINT I HAD ABOUT MAZATALAN IS THE BEACH VENDORS, WE HAVE BEEN TO 3 OTHER PLACES IN MEXICO AND THIS IS THE WORST PLACE FOR VENDORS. THE WEATHER WAS WONDERFUL LITTLE COOL AT NIGHT BUT THE DAYS WERE BONITO

Today is March 30, 2001...we just got home last Tuesday from a 2 week vacation, with my husband my mom and dad. One of the hilights of last year's trip (first time to Mazatlan), AND again this year was actually spotting Nadine, Henry and Belle (their newest, 4 legged addition), on the beach!! I considered it quite an honor to have met you twice, and met Nadine again on our last day at the airport of all places, again with Belle, as she was picking up her mom who was coming to visit them... We stayed at the Fiesta Inn, right beside the Caravelle and Tony's...we would stay there again in a heart beat!! It's the hotel in front of the big rocks that jut out into the ocean, truly a landmark. All the rooms are ocean view, we stayed in a corner of the hotel and thus had an awesome 'L' shaped balcony where you could see EVERYTHING!! The food at the restaurant in the Fiesta is absolutely to die for, very reasonable AND lots of variety. The tour package we took was through Signature, and their promo was everything - food and drinks, 24/7 - was 2 for 1!!! It was like being on an all inclusive, yet we did venture to many, many other great places to eat. At times it was just the 4 of us at the pool, making you feel like you owned the hotel (...and who invited all the other guests??!!) :) Can't say enough about the Fiesta...but if you would like to know more I'd be more than happy to share info. The staff was unbelievably friendly and accomodating, and they even let me use their Business Centre any time day or night, where I would go on a computer and email back home every night. That was such a PLUS, although an Internet Cafe was just a block away, but closed at 10:00 each night. The other BONUS is there is a Bikini shop RIGHT ACCROSS THE STREET!! I thought I had died and gone to heaven!! My husband bought me 3, and at 300 pesos each (or 50.00 CDN), I found that to be a STEAL, as I have spent more here at tanning salons for a suit! Ahhhh...sure miss the sound of the ocean at night....Love the sand in front of the hotel too, just can't say enough!! In love with Mexico (that's why we got married there 4 yrs ago in Puerto Vallarta...), Christine PS - I had no idea Nadine and Henry had such a huge fan club, and by reading all your letters, I'm seeing SO MANY from Canada, THAT'S SO AWESOME, EH????

Not much information on the net and pictures/descriptions can be deceptive and since there ill be a number of family members joining us we do not want to be disappointed. Thanks. Catharine

Just returned from a trip to Maz. Took some friends down, and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We went to the Fiesta at Playa Mazatlan, and it was great. We went to the bullfights--yuck! Gory! We took a tour to Stone Island from our hotel, the Los Sábalos, but it wasn't very good. It left an hour and a half late, and the guide was rude. I recommend Ole' Tours which we have used in the past and had a great time. The Los Sábalos, although a nice hotel, didn't provide the service we expected such as hot water, towels, soap, etc. Every day it got worse. And the spring breakers were out of control! We hardly got to sleep any of the seven nights we were there. I wouldn't recommend going in March. But all in all it was a good trip.

My name is Dan Barsotti, I am a marketing student at the University of Alberta in Canada and I need some help requiring some information about Mazatlan and the resorts that lie among the beautiful beaches. We are focusing our studies on the basis of water purification and were wondering if anyone could direct us to some information about how many resorts use a water purification system and/or sell bottled water. If you yourself have any information or could point us in the right direction, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you kindly, Dan Barsotti.

I just want to say that Mazatlan is a great spot in Mexico to visit. If you don't want to spend too much money in mainland Mexico, I strongly recommend MAZATLAN. The best time to vist is the week before Ash Wednesday (around Feb. or March, depending when Ash Wednesday falls) and Spring Break (around March or April). I have been to "The Pearl of the Pacific" 18 times already, I know MAZATLAN all to well. For the people who will visit this magnificent port for the first time, I am more than positive that they will fall in love with MAZATLAN.

Well guys, just got back from Mazatlan and had a pretty good time.Things havent changed much since we were there 10 years ago. We did find things sure cost alot more. One of my favorite restaurants being the Shrimp factory cost us about 60 dollars a person, but yes it was good. I found the panama the best place to have breakfast. You have to try there frenchtoast covered in crepes.Another great place was called 'THE PLACE'you can get 30 nice size prawns for 10 dollars. It is located down from the caravelle beach club. Well hope you have a great time and thanks again Nadine and Henry for your awesome site.

In the Golden Zone and even outside of it, there are tons of money exchange booths. They will cash Travellers cheques but make sure you look around for the best exchange because they can differ quite a bit. Also, make sure that you count back the pesos that they give back to you. I never had problems, but someone told my friend and I to do that and it just avoids any problems. Avoid using credit cards because someone told us that there is sometimes credit card fraud. In our hotel, Oceano Palace, you could rent a safety deposit box in your room for 2 US dollars per day. It's large enough to hold money, travellers cheques, Mexican tourist card, passport and cameras. Maybe a camcorder too. I would imagine that most hotels have safety deposit boxes available. Have fun and make sure to go to Bora Bora! But stay away from Carlos the bartender cuz he's mine!

You will not regret vacationing in Mazatlan, I have the greatest memories now that I have gone there. I felt very safe at night just taking a stroll on the zona dorada blvd. I would highly reccomend Senor Frogs on friday nights for loud music, drinks, and dancing ( some of the cutest waitors to check out there too). Do not miss out the experience of going to the hottest clubs that are inside a castle. This is an experience not to be missed!!!! The food in Mazatlan is good, expect to pay what we normally pay in the states, unless you eat at food stands, which I reccomend also. Enjoy and be safe.

I cant thank Nadine and Henry enough for their wonderful site! I was very rushed before my trip to Mazatlan which ended March 11th. The Maztravel site was a huge help to me. I printed out all kinds of useful information and coupons. It was great to know all sorts of insider information, like that the bus drivers own the buses, or that the Queens Coronation would be fun to go to (which it was), or even how to get to town from the airport. I got a great haircut at Christine's Hair Salon. We also went to the Familia charity dinner which was lots of fun. Mazatlan and the people who live there are charming. Thanks again!!! p.s. Don't send tourists to Sam's Club to shop. You have to by ten of everything or size jumbo and they have a poor selection. They didn't even have any Maya soap or basic groceries! La Gran Plaza Mall next to it has everything and is much more fun.

We're back!!! We had a blast! We too were quite concerned about the Oceano after reading some of the comments out there. We had a really nice time. Some of the rooms are in "serious" need of a make-over but were clean. We left some pesos on our pillow every morning and were assured a clean room, towels and soap every day. If you can get an ocean view you'll absolutely love it, it's wonderful. We couldn't get one but we saw their view and it's beautiful. The food was good. Not fantastic as it is only a 2+* but we enjoyed it. You can have a fresh omelet made every day to your liking as well as a variety of breakfast food. Lunch and dinner is quite similar with a variety of buffet type food, nothing too scary looking! You also have a snack bar for lunch which has hotdogs, burgers (very good), fries, nachos and chicken nuggets (also very good). The drinks are great! Try a rum punch, very refreshing! The only complaint people had about the drinks is the small cups they come in!!!! Again, a few pesos here and there and you'll get a waiter coming around at your leisure. The beach is great, nice soft sand and the view beautiful. There is a bird sanctuary right across (it looks like a small mountain). You can get a kayak for free and go see it. The beach there has a lot of "bird poop" as it is their home but it's nice to see. If you make it to Ernie Tomatoes, try their fried green tomatoes. They are quite good. Senior Frog also has excellent food for a change but watch out that they don't rip you off with drinks! Joe's Oyster Bar is a great place to dance and so is Bora Bora. We had so much fun there. We hung around about a dozen people from all over and we had a fantastic time. No one had any complaints! Think of it as what it is, a low rate hotel and you'll be impressed! Troy and Chantal

This is for those of you wondering about Oceano Palace hotel... My friend and I just got back a week and and half ago and we stayed at Oceano Palace. Before we left for our trip I had read and heard some bad things, however we thought it was awesome for what we payed. True, the food wasn't the greatest but we only ate in our hotel twice, because why bother when there are so many amazing restaurants in Mazatlan? Our room was very pretty and very comfortable(and I should add that I had been to other parts of Mexico when I was younger with my family and we stayed in GORGEOUS hotels, but still Oceano Palace was hardly a let down.) So yeah, it's not a huge resort but for what you pay, and for the amount of time that you actually spend in the hotel, it's perfect. Also, if anyone travelling to Mazatlan wants to try the BEST pizza of their lives, go to the Ristorante Italia. There's a little pizzeria attached to the left of it and the pizza is to die for. The service pretty much sucks, but believe me, you have never in your life had pizza like this!

Just got back from out two weeks in Mazatlan...and want to be back there NOW. It was great though the weather was cooler and windier than on previous trips. I have read all the posts since we left and they sure point out the differences in people's experience. While one finds La Fontana the "best" we found it the worst, not the food necessarily but the service the night that we were there was awful....for the first time in 18 years of going to Mexico I left NO tip. Also found the timeshare person that was their "meeter and greeter annoying". For us, absolutely the BEST dining experiences were to be had at Blue Cactus. We were there 3 times, were greeted like old friends on the second visit and tried many, many things from their menu...everything was delicious. Edgar and Armando are "Waiters Extrordinaire" and we recommend this place heartily - just up from Shrimp Factory toward Panama Restaurant. Another place that we liked and that was a new experience for us was La Misione - their ribs were wonderful. They are quite a ways out in the direction of the El Cid Marina and on the right hand side. Hope everyone who tries our suggestions enjoys them as much as we did...and can't wait to come back next year. Al and Alex

I am going back to Maz for the 5th time this year. Although I generally love the area, I get soooooo frustrated with the TIMESHARE salespeople. I understand everyone has to make a living, but it really is irritating to be bugged this way all the time. I had my daughter make me a shirt with the words NO TIMESHARE! printed on the front. Maybe I should have one made for every day. This type of thing is ruining the image of Mazatlan. Maybe someone should tell them to quit before no one wants to go there anymore. Last time I was in Maz, I went to a place called La Casa Country down by the Doubletree and they had a very funny floorshow. Can anyone tell me if they still have it? I am taking some friends down, and would love for them to see it. The food was very good also, and the show, although somewhat silly, was entertaining, especially for those country music lovers.

Hi Harry & Nadine I just got back from Mazatlan and While I had a great time as always I could not believe how much HIGHER everything was .. Last year it only cost 2 dollars to go to the golden Zone this year 3 dollars and NO they wouldn't even bargain on it .. I even stayed at the same Hotel El Cid Castilla and the Staff their is GREAT . I whole hardly reccomened Mr A's as it is indeed my favorite Restaurant down their The food and the Nice peaceful Piano music make this a must see for Me.. I also liked the Horn N Tails for the best Ribs in Mazatlan I found the food here much better then some of the other places . I also ate at Senior Frogs and the Shrimp Factory .. The shrimp Factory cost the most of any restaurant I ate at and while the food was good It also cost 20 bucks american which make it no Bargain in my book. The No Name Cafe was good as always and don't miss the Dairy Queen for a dipped cone .. I know I didn't . BEWARE of the timeshare people they are not your friends and I got really tired of them as they do not take No Thank You as an answer anymore . I got stuck at a presentation and forget the 90 minutes it was 2 hours of me telling them I wasn't interrested before I got out of their.. If you go say HI to Everyone at Mr.A's . and enjoy the sun and the golfing at Estrella Del Mar it is indeed a pretty golf course .. HAVE FUN

SENOR FROGS WAS THE BEST. I had the best time at Senor Frogs. I went to Mazatlan with my father and aunt, which they both wanted me to have fun and enjoy my time in Mexico, and the sure took me to the right places. We stayed at Pueblo Buneto (excuse my spelling). The first day we went exploring we went on a tour in the open-air taxies. It was good, a litte scary (those taxi drivers think they are the best drivers, it's kind of funny). Anyways, we got hungry and everyone was talking about senor frogs so we decided to go, and try desserts! AWESOME food. If you go before it's busy the servise is unbelieveable...they're so friendly. And I really wanted to go to discos, but I was under age (16). So we asked the waiter if they had a age limit and he said I could pass. What a compliment! So one night I got bored and decided to go to Senor Frogs to dance. Well I was a little nervous to hit the bar part and dance right aways, so I sat down and orderd a coke. THE WAITERS THERE ARE HOT!!! And the one I had my eye on finally asked me to dance. We danced til they closed and he was the sweetest thing, just like the rest of the staff. It was so great I brought my Aunt the next day and we had a blast. I LOVE IT THERE!

Dear Nadine & Henry Just got back a week ago from a two-week vacation in Mazatlan. Heaven.... I went with a friend and we both loved the place. Already thinking of going again next year. We prepared our trip about three months before going. I found you site back then and looked for other ones as well but yours was the best and the most informative. Also the site at www.pacificpearl.com was good but yours is the best. I printed most of your site and took it along with us including the coupons. We didn't try a lot of restaurants as we could cook in our unit at Vidafel but the one we did, enjoyed very much. They were La Paraje (The Place), great ribs and excellent red wine (Kino Padre - 74 pesos for a litre - cheap); Los Arcos, delicious shrimps, went there twice; Thorny's, most delicious burgers and the beer really cheap. I think we had a two-litre bottle of Cervesa for 16 pesos. We tried the Shrimp Bucket but were very disappointed, too expensive and we almost had to argue to have your coupon redeemed. It was the night before Valentine's day and they were saying they were saving their wine for that night! Instead of the half litre we expected, we only got two regular glasses of wine. Also the drive to El Shrimp Bucket from Vidafel is quite long and not worth it. If we go again, that place is out of our list. We had no problem with the other restaurants to have your coupon honoured. We tried another one not far from Los Sábalos, an Italian restaurant, can't remember the name right now but it was very good. We were not in the disco scene but I took pleasure in dancing on the bar at Bora Bora. We enjoyed our stay at the Vidafel. I think we enjoyed it more there than if we had been down on the Golden Zone. It is away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, air is cleaner and much quieter. Vidadel is only about a 30 minutes drive from downtown and only cost 3.50 pesos. Bus run quite frequently. The food and drinks are expensive but very good. If anyone ask advice on Vidafel, tell them that if they break any of the supplied amenities, ie, coffeepot, blender, dishes, cups, glasses, etc. They should expect to pay quite a bit on their hotel bill. My friend accidentally broke the coffeepot and a small glass. The hotel wanted 233$ pesos for the coffeepot and 7$ pesos for the glass. Which converted to Canadian dollars meant about 40$ for the coffeepot and over 1$ for the glass. We went to Sam and she bought a new coffee machine for 185 pesos and a glass at Grand Plaza for a few pesos. Once replaced, the hotel agreed to remove the charges from our hotel bill. We replaced the coffeepot only and gave the remainder of the new unit to the maid. She was quite happy. We kept track of our expenses at the hotel and two days before leaving we requested a print out of our hotel bill to double check that everything was OK and they were; better be safe. I walked the beach early every morning hoping to see one of you and the "kids" but no luck. I loved watching the pelicans doing waves surfing. Had fun bargaining with the beach peddlers. Bought shrimp one day from a man standing at our beach site. They were delicious. We had to cook and clean them but it was worth it. I wish I were back there right now as it is -15 Celsius with the wind chill factor it feels like -30 C. A record breaking of over 100 years. Could do without that. Enough said. Thank you very much for a great site and advise. All the info provided came in quite handy. We even gave our printed document to some other Canadians before leaving the resort. I am sure they will enjoy it too. We also mentioned your site to a number of people. Keep up the good work. Sylvie from Halifax Nova Scotia Canada

Thanks for the great site! Even though we had been to Mazatlan before, we found your site to be a super resource. Just like before...our trip this time was FANTASTIC. There is so much to see and do. It's a pleasant change to go somewhere that has industry besides tourism. Mazatlan doesn't have to be 'resorty' as it is very much it's own city. We even ended up purchasing a timeshare at the Inn at Mazatlan this time. What a great place. 12 foot cielings, tastefully decorated, on the beach, beautiful views, great staff and a world class resaurant...Papagayo. I'm really surprised about something though. It seems like your site and all the others for that matter, leave out what my husband and I feel is the ABSOLUTE BEST place to eat seafood in the Zona Dorada. Hands down, La Fontana's is the place to go for shrimp, lobster, oysters, you name it. Had a super time and will be going back in March.

A group of 24 springbreakers and myself are traveling to Mazatlan in 10 days and we are staying at the Costa de Oro for 6 nights. So far, not too many comments on this hotel. I was just wondering on the quality of it and the location. Any other tips/suggestions would be extremely helpful. I personally, have never seen the ocean yet and want to make this trip one to remember. Thanks for all your help. Jill

Spent the week of 1/29 at the Riviera Beach Hotel. Nice room & pool & beach; only wich it was closer tothe action. Really enjoyed both Guadaljara Grill (suggest trying the Spanish coffee; the presentation is great) and Ernie Tomatoes. Was disappointed with the Shrimp Bucket, where we always go. This time it was nothing special & we agreed it was not worth paying a pulmonia to get there. Your info on restaurants was great! Keep up the good work

This is a great resource, thank-you Nadine and Henry. We just got back from a week's stay at the Playa in Mazatlan and had a wonderful time there. All the tips we got from this web site really paid off for us. We went to must of the restaurants you reviewed and you were spot on. The ribs at Señor Frogs are a must, and the Beef Molcajeta at the Guadalajara Grill was fantastic! Actually, the Guadalajara Grill was worth going twice, and we did! The only complaint I had was at the Sheik restaurant. We reserved a table for Valentine's night and I wore a shirt and tie for the occasion. The service was terrible and so was the food. It took us 45 minutes to get our soup that was just microwaved in the bowl and eventually our dinner came after being there over one and a half hours. The view was nice there but that was about it, for us anyway. One other place not mentioned is the Gringo Lingo. We liked it there for lunch and the staff there is great. You can't go wrong with the shrimp stuffed avocado, fantastic. We had a great time in Mazatlan and hope to come back again soon.

Hello, Thank you for your web site, it has been very helpful. We just visited Mazatlan for the first time. We unfortunately visited during one of their very rare cold spells, needing a jacket and slacks 3 out of our 7 day visit. We highly recommend getting a copy of the Pacific Pearl for a good map and helpful information. The best place we found to eat was the Panama, it had great food, was clean, very reasonably priced, portions were very large so consider sharing a meal if you are not a big eater, service was good and waiters friendly. We tried a meal at Ernie Tomatos and were disappointed, food was not very good. Mango Tango serves a nice Chicken Ceaser Pleaser Sandwich for lunch and is priced at only 40 pecos. The beach was beautiful and the pools were nice at the Royal Villas. Rooms could be a bit nicer for the rating they received. We were saddened by the number of beggers and poverty that was abundant even in the Golden Zone. It was definately an eye opener for our children and made us grateful for the taxes we pay in our county. The air and land pollution was shocking. We are certainly glad we experienced Mazatlan but do not plan to visit again soon.

My favorite hangouts are Gringo Lingos and Joe's Oyster Bar. The information on the Oceano Palace is great. We have stayed at The Don Pelayo for years but this year we could only get a room at the Oceano Palce. I know that the beach down there is great. Even staying at the Don Pelayo we always ventured up to the north end to hang out on the beaches.

Going back to Mazatlan March 16th-23rd,2001. Haven't been there since 1994 & really looking forward to getting back. Always had a great time. We are staying at the Suites Las Flores where we have stayed before & hope it's as good as it was. Like the fact that all the rooms have an ocean view & a kitchenette- get the instant coffee, find the bakery & we're ready for the early mornings. Plus, their happy-hour was always one of the best! Nadine & Henry's web page has been GREAT! I have so enjoyed reading it, getting the coupons & info on some resturants I was not aware of. One place we had been to last time we were there was called the Jungle Juice. It was on the second floor of a building on a corner. Small place. Had a regular called "Axeon". Is it still there??

We'll be down in Mazatlan for a week beginning 3/2/2001. We were there last year for the 100th anniversary of Pacifico beer. (Yeah...kind of like it) One of my mission for 2000 was to visit the brewery. No tour, or anything. Just wanted to go there. Had seen in a Mexican restaurant here in Minneapolis, one of those painted metal advertising signs promoting Pacifico. (y nada mas...) Would like to get one of those for my basement rec room, but don't know where to go or who to ask. Any ideas? Tried emails to Grupo Modelo last year, but got no response. One other question: Is the legendary green flash visible in Mazatlan at sundown? We keep looking from the balcony, but haven't seen one yet. Thanks for your time. Hope to meet you guys some day. Ted

Thanks for the great informative site. What an awesome idea. My husband and I are going down to Mazatlan on Feb. 23 for 1 week staying at the Oceano Palace. We book an all inclusive there. We are not truly expecting too much from the hotel itself as we got a really good deal on it and it is only a 2+*. Can anyone tell us a little bit about it? Has anyone stayed there before? I hear we can make use of the Luna Palace facilities as well and enjoy free drinks by there pool. We are going down to celebrate ou 10th year anniversary (on a bit of a budget obviously!) but are looking to have a good time nonetheless. Friends of ours just came back and had a terrific time every night at Gringo Lingo's. We can't wait!! Thanks.

What a great site! I went looking as I was in Mazatlan way back in 1965. Seems to have changed quite a bit! I was only 13 but remember a cafe named Copa de Leche. Is it still there? Am trying to figure out the name of the hotel we were at,a corner, three story with balconies all around, right on the beach. Looking south is a hill that juts out and a tall hotel, Hotel Freeman at the base. Our northern view, besides the Coke and Pepsi flashing signs, was a small hill. Ocean view was wonderful with a large rock island w/ 2 humps on it. Is the place still there? I'm trying to put together some stuff for my 5th grader's class for Mexico. If you send an email address I could scan and send a photo or two of '65 to you. Thanks, Krickit

Hi everyone, just returned from Mazatlan...2nd year in a row, love it there, the people are fantastic...stayed at the Caravelle Beach Resort, a 3 star hotel...nothing fancy, but the ocean view rooms are clean, the view great, can watch the dolphins go by early in the morning, the staff is wonderful, and happy hour is great....just north of the Golden Zone, can catch a pneumonia for 30 pesos to almost everywhere, the bus is 3 pesos and comes by often....this time went with 10 girlfriends, we were treated like princesses everywhere.....recommend Casa Country for a great steak and entertainment, as well as Senor Frogs for great loud entertainment,(great looking men), try there Victoria Chicken....wow....love Ernie's Tomato (great pizza) and also Chili's Pepper next door to the Caravelle, great shrimp and a superior staff....go to Gringo Lingo's for dancing and partying, and Jungle Juice for a good time(look for my name on the wall)....anyways can't wait to go back next year, with the husband's this time....Nadine and Henry, thanks for a wonderful site, that has been helpful 2 years in a row, used some of your coupons as well, hope to meet you guys sometime when we are back in Mazatlan........Adios Amigos!

We just got back and we are so sad! That is the only bad part of vacation you have to go home! This was our 3 time, every year it gets better! We have so much fun and have made so many friends! It's like visiting family! We got a little crazy our first night out (to many teq. shots!)But the rest of the week was wonderful! We stayed at the Costa De Oro ,very nice, but sure was cold in our room at night!Joe's is the best to sit at during the day and just hang out.We had excellent food at Ernie's and Gringolingo and the service was always perfect! We hope to go back next year. For now we will just keep looking at our pictures!!!!

Help!!!! I'm trying to plan a vacation with my husband, and we can't seem to agree on anything. This is our first trip to Mexico... we are going to Mazatlan February 23, 2001 with friends... Can you give me some advise on hotels... I would prefer first class accommodations. How is the El Cid Castilla... is it worth the money, or are there nicer accommodations that are more bang for your buck? Also, would you recommend all-inclusive or not? There is a deal on for the Caravelle beach club which is only a 3 star... what's this place like? Any help you can give me is wonderful and thank you for this site... it is very informative and I think it's wonderful that you take the time to share with others. Cheers!

Thanks to our inquiry about acommodations we have had several responses. I was wondering if you or anyone else out there could give us your opinions on Puesta del Sol and Branta Negra (still haven't heard rates on this one but it looks very nice). Also if anyone knows exactly where it is located, say in relationship to El Cid or Playa Mazatlan. Our departure date is getting closer and we're getting very anxious to be there. Thank you! Alex

Just returned from our First Trip to Mazatlan and HAD A BALL!! We stayed at the Oceana. We enjoyed the food, hospitality, and the steady flow of alcohol. I have stayed at classier places in my life. But for the price and a place on the Beach, You can't beat it. Secret. We attended the Timeshare presentations at a couple of resorts. Got 2 tickets to a Mexican Fiesta (est 58.00). GOt two tickets to Stone Island (est 50.00) Got 2 Bottles of Tequila (priceless). Two Blankets (est 50.00). And a personal Tour of the City by the Timeshare salesman (who was trying to make a sale). For 3 hours of my time, I saved over 400.00. Remember, when you go everything is a barter. ANd you can always say no. I will be going back in four to six months.

We just came back from Mazatlan on January 19 2001. We stayed at the Oceano Palace. If you are planning to stay there, the ocean view is a must!!! It has a very beautiful view. The beach was very nice also. The ocean waves were perfect. The food there was very poor. Staff was generally polite. Room service only changes sheets every second day, and we ran into an incident where our made made our bed but did not change our sheets until we complained. Hotel was pretty clean, with no purified water. You had bottled water that you had to refill yourself. We had an ant problem in our room ( tiny ants) which was supposedly unusual. Food scheduele wasn't adequate. There would be 3 hour gaps from lunch to dinner. Alcohalic drinks were good. It was served in small cups however there was no limit on how many drinks you could order at a time. Lots of variety. All in all, for the price it was o.k especially for a 2 star hotel. You just have to over drink to compensate for the food.

How quickly things change. There are now just two of us arriving in Mazatlan on Feb 9. We would still be interested in someplace with a kitchenette but it can now be smaller. I forgot to mention how much we enjoy your site. We have a friend who teaches tourism at the University of Perth, Australia. He was looking for sites regarding tourism in Mexico and I sent him your webpage address as one of the best. We will use some of your coupons on this trip and from past experience agree totally with your restaurant choices. Thanks for a great site. Al and Alex

We are arriving in Mazatlan on Feb. 9 and staying til the 23rd. We usually book accommodation when we get there but thought someone might be able to give us suggestions. There will be 4 people and in the past we stayed at Motel Marley and loved it. Can't find anything on any of the Mazatlan pages but would like to try and book it or something similiar - 2 bedroom with kitchen on or very near the beach and not too expensive. Would sure appreciate either help on reaching Motel Marley or other similiar accommodations. Thank you.

Good Morning, Your web site has informative and entertaining. Perhaps you would answer a few questions for me? My husband is in the military and is taking a ship around to the east coast to be de-commissioned. The ship will be stopping in several places, one of them being Mazatlan. We are trying to plan some time together in the midst of his travels. We have settled on Mazatlan as the place where we are trying to meet up. It works out that my husbands ship will be in Mazatlan the last week of March which I understand in spring break for young folks. We are interested in enjoying Mazatlan together but prefer not to party with the kids. Our travel agent has me booked at the Hotel Playa Mazatlan, at this point. What are your thoughts on this hotel as to whether it is a "partying" type hotel and also is it a secure, safe place? Also, do you have any idea of where a military ship might moor or dock? The guys on the ship here still have no idea of where they will be tying up or anchoring. If you have an idea of where this might be, where is it in relation to the Hotel Playa Mazatlan? Also, what would be the best mode of transportation for my husband from the ship to the hotel? Also, we hope and pray that the ship will make port the day it is scheduled to but things don't always work out the way we hope. Can you recommend things for me to do by myself? Thanks a bunch for taking the time to relieve a bit of apprehension in our upcoming travels.

Just made the reservations...going back to Maz 12/24/01! YaHOOOOOOOO! If someone going down could get me the address of the store called Here's Paco (on Camarón Sábalo, the main drag, white awning, near Constantino's leather store) I would be so appreciative. The owner's brother-in law, Jose, is a beach vendor who sells blankets and has been a friend of ours for almost 20 years. I want to write and let him know we're coming but I've lost the address. Thanks in advance whoever you are for being a good amigo!

We enjoyed your web site and information very much. We reviewed it before we went on our brief one week holiday to Mazatlan. We took the restaurant page along for reference. We thought we would provide a few comments. We agree 100% with your comments about Senor Frogs and the Guadalajara Grill. We found the wiaters, service and food at the Guadalajara Grill to be very good. Ernie Tomoato's was also a good place to eat. The mexican food from the menu was excellent We had burgers at Thorny's. Tasted like home! We were disappointed in Senor Pepper's. The food was OK but not nearly worth the price we paid. Our biggest disappointment of the week was the Shrimp Bucket. The service was impersonal and the food was barely adequate considering our bill was almost $400 (pesos). We are not really big "sun tanners" so we spent a lot of time walking, especially in the downtown area. It was very pleasant and some of the "out of the way" art and craft type shops were really interesting. The people were friendly, the bus service good (we never bothered with a taxi or pulmonia)and , except for the comments above, the food was great. We found the drinks kind of expensive (last year we were in Barra de Navidad and Melaque - very inexpensive) so you had to look for the happy hour deals. Thanks for the information and we would certainly recommend your web site to anyone planning to visit Mazatlan. Regards, Ed and Doreen.

Trying to reply to a fellow by the name of jeff who email keeps bouncing back. In regards to your questions re the rivera hotel. Yes it is quiet they took out the disco and are replacing it with meeting rooms. Staff were just awesome. The only noise is from Tonys ni9ghtclub across the street and the hotel is a block and a half from playa Mazatlan. Maybe a star below it for accomendations but after all the beer and tequila who cares. Rooms are clean and the staff are truly great.

First of all a big thanks to Henry and Nadine! Your website is wonderful and I have printed out most of it to take with us. We are coming to Mazatlan on Feb. 3, 2001 for a week. Given a choice between Hotel Suites Las Flores or Torre Tropicana Hotel, which one should we chose? Any and all comments would be greatly appreciated. We are a married couple in our 50's and this will be our fist stay in Mazatlan. We have visited on Cruise Ship stops and also we have vacationed in nearly all other Mexican Tourist cities. Please help. Thanks again for the wonderful site and I love seeing photos of Gatita, as we have a Chihuahua also and we love her to death. Thanks again.

Our only problem is that we can't find anything on the internet about bus schedules. Do you have any suggestions on where to find these on the internet? We know it's going to be long on the busses, but just need to know when we are going to have to catch them etc. before we leave(if possible!) Any suggestions? We are so glad that you have taken the time to prepare this wonderful website! It has helped us tremendously on our little adventure!!! We appreciate your help!!! Thanks Chenille

Just found this website great! My husband and I love Mazatlan and are going back for two weeks on the 14th! We have been there about 7 times and never get tired. We usually stay at Pueblo Bonito (Alaska Airlines package) but this trip staying at El Cid Marina. Both are timeshare properties but they have studios for rent. lst class accomodations, great staff at both places! Ocean view too. Restaurants? One of my personal favorites is Tambor's El Patio just south and across the street from Pueblo Bonito. The Shrimp Factory in the Golden Zone for great lobster! Pancho's in the Golden Zone (faces the beach) for great margaritas (but be careful! - they can get you going). No Name Cafe also in the Golden Zone is great if you are hankering for some American style food and good sports bar. We have been lucky I guess, because we have never gotten sick, but I follow a simple rule - keep hands clean at all times (carry handiwipes). My husband and I even eat at the taco stands that open up in the evening- a great one is Tacos La Luna on the main street 1 block north from Golden Zone, you can eat great for about $5 for two people. Ask for "tacos Pasteur" try them they are great and use all the condiments on the table! Safety? We feel safer there than downtown LA. Common sense is the rule. Don't act stupid or wear a lot of jewelry, stay on lighted streets. And as anywhere be aware of your surroundings. But our experiences have always been pleasant and the Mexican people are some of the nicest folks we have met. Most want us to enjoy their country and really appreciate it when they see we are.

Mazatlan is great in December - we spent a week there, away from the west coast rain of BC. At Mzt, we found blues skies for 7 days straight, beautiful waters, and decent sand. if you wanna place to think about nothing but pina colada and a nice tan: think Mzt. Beware of the beach vendors and do not eat anything that has not been cooked to death. I spent one entire day in bed, close to the lavatory; so be warned. If you like parties, head south in zona dorada. We wanted a bit quiter so stayed north - it was nice view for 2.5 star and clean. But la cockarocha! i guess they are everywhere. mzt is perfect for the sit-back-relax. service is excellent, esp when you tip heavy. snorkling, food, drinks - they were consistently good. for outings, we went to the marina (kinda neat) and the old town to hang with the locals.

On your map, it says that it's right next to Ginger's Horses...I was just wondering exactly how CLOSE to the horses we will be...and also if you know anything about how nice the Vidafel is. We've got teenagers and they're looking forward to the pool and ocean..not to mention the discos! Thanks for the info! PS- Thanks a lot for all the helpful info on your site...we are all very eager to try the restaurants that you guys recommended!
